Preface:-
According to the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act 1949, the duties of the Municipal Corporation are covered as follows.
- 1.Settlement of stray dogs and cats in the city.
- 2. Settlement of stray animals in the city.
- 3.Government of Maharashtra, Urban Development Department (Navi-20) letter no. 02004/P.No.121/Navi/20, dated 07/09/2004 and Government of Maharashtra, Urban Development Department (Navi-20) letter no. 102004/P.No.121/Navi/20, dated 22/07/2009, on the occasion of the Paryushan festival of the Jain religion, all slaughterhouses and meat shops in the municipal area should be closed on two days from Shravan Vdya 12 to Bhadrapada Shuddha 4 and Shravan on the remaining days of the Paryushan festival. On two days from Vdya 13 to Bhadrapada Shudd 3 and 5, all slaughterhouses and meat shops are called by the Municipal Corporation to close down slaughterhouses and meat shops.
- 4.Government Order No. Miscellaneous 10/2002/P.No.111/Nov. 27, Urban Development Department, dated 28/03/2003, every year on the day of "Mahavir Jayanti" action is taken to close the slaughterhouses and meat shops in the municipal area.
- 5. Government (Home Department) Circular no. : DIS0913/Pro.No.434/Visha1(B), dated 01/10/2014 and under the provisions of Section 331 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, permission is given on a temporary basis to set up Bakri Mandi and sacrifice animals in the municipal area on the occasion of Bakri Eid every year. For pre-slaughter inspection of animals on the occasion of Bakri Eid, Mr. Livestock Development Officer and Competent Officer are appointed from the office of District Animal Husbandry Deputy Commissioner, Thane (Office – Mulund (W)).
DUTIES ANIMAL HUSBANDARY DIPARTMENTL:-
- 1.To catch and sterilize and vaccinate stray dogs in the city, to appoint a contractor through tender process.
- 2.On the occasion of the Paryushan festival of Jainism, taking action to close all slaughterhouses and meat shops in the municipal area on two days from Shravan Vdya 12 to Bhadrapad Shuddha 4.
- 3.To take action to keep all slaughterhouses and meat shops in the municipal area closed on the day of “Mahavir Jayanti” every year.
- 4.Proceedings for temporary permission to set up Bakra Mandi and sacrifice animals in municipal area on the occasion of Bakri Eid every year.
- 5.Taking action to capture and imprison stray animals in the city.
- 6.To look after the work of Animal Husbandry Department as Public Information Officer.
- 7.Hon. Commissioner and Hon. To act as per instructions given by the Deputy Commissioner.
