INTRODUCTION
  • Maharashtra Special Committee for Women and Child Welfare is established under Section-30 of the Municipal Corporation Act.
  • Maharashtra Under Section-30 (2) of the Municipal Corporation Act, the area of work, powers and duties of the Women and Child Welfare Committee are determined by a special resolution passed by a vote of at least two-thirds of the municipal members present and voting in its meeting.
  • Maharashtra Under Section-30(3) of the Municipal Corporation Act, two members are appointed as Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson from among the members of Women and Child Welfare Committee.
  • Maharashtra According to Section-30 (1)(a) of the Municipal Corporation Act, at least 75 percent of the members of the Women and Child Welfare Committee shall be from among the women municipal members.
  • In the Municipal Corporation Women and Child Welfare Committee has 15 members.
  • Women And Child Welfare Committee is expected to be held meeting once in every month.
Powers and Duties of Women and Child Welfare Committee
  • Acting under Section 30(3) of The Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act
  • All actions/decisions are taken on behalf of the Special Committee require the support of at least two-thirds of the total members of the Committee.
  • According to the government decision, it is necessary to reserve 5 percent provision from the total budget fund for women And child welfare department.

  • It is intended to implement the scheme as per the Government Decision No. Sankirna 2005 Pr.No.156/05/Navi-20 dated 30/12/2006 and subject to the conditions of the various guidelines and instructions of the scheme.
  • Government Decision No. – MUM-2021 /P.No.385/794/Navi-17 Mantralaya, Mumbai-400 032 dt. As per 29/03/2022 and various guidelines of the scheme are intended to be implemented subject to the terms and conditions of the scheme.

Details of the Schemes being implemented by the Department of Women and Child Welfare 2022-23
  • Scheme for providing financial assistance for marriage to daughters of destitute/widow/divorced women is being implemented.
  • Educational assistance is given to children of destitute/widow/divorced women for education.
  • Financial assistance is given to women suffering from cancer.
  • Sanitary Napkin/Dettol soap has been supplied to the girls of class 07 and 08 in the municipal schools.
  • It has been planned to distribute materials for self-employment to the poor and needy women of the Municipal Corporation. (Idli Maker, Gharghanti Machine, Multigrain Atta Machine etc.)
  • Beauty parlor, sewing class, mehndi, softtoys for self employment for poor and needy women and girls of the city under women and child welfare department. Cooking Baking, Tissue Paper Bags, Judo Karate Yoga, English Speaking, MSCIT, Basic Computer. Various trainings of free vocational/technical nature like DTP, Vehicle training etc. have been started at Mahila Bhavan, Kanakia, Mira Road.
  • A health camp for women and children is organized in the slums of Mira bhainder Municipal Corporation area and examination is done through different specialist doctors like Gynecologist and Paediatrician in that camp. Also free sanitary napkins were distributed everywhere.
  • Girl child rescue scheme awareness program is implemented in the hut. For that, awareness and dissemination is done through necessary pamphlets and Suvichara in all the slums.
  • Free food is provided to pregnant and post-natal mothers if they are admitted to the mental hospital. The said scheme will be started at Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi Hospital of the municipality.
  • Beds with cradles have been provided for the children of women who have given birth in Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi Hospital under Mahila and Child Welfare Committee.
  • By meriting the students of class 10th, bicycles have been distributed to the students who have scored more than 95 percent marks and bags have been distributed to the students who have scored more than 90 percent marks. Also, bicycles have been distributed to the girls of class 08 of municipal schools.
  • Through Mira Bhaindar Municipal Corporation, a mammography machine has been purchased for breast (cancer) examination and the said machine has been made operational in Indira Gandhi Hospital. Therefore, free breast cancer screening is being done for poor and needy women.
  • Warli petting, planting and taking care of ornamental trees, as well as adwas beauty parlor (bridal makeup) etc. A one-day workshop of sorts was organized.

   As above Various activities, schemes are implemented through Women and Child Welfare Committee.
